I am a 35 years old & I have a monthly cycle (period). I experience the common symptoms before & during my period. My question is: I have seemed to have hot flashes at anytime during the month, has started the last two months. I was wondering if hot flashes are normal thing at my age or could it be something more serious? I was taking the depo-provera shot for 14 years & stopped it about two years ago. I started getting my period back after a year after going off the birth control shots. Is the hot flashes normal or may it be something else I need to be concerned with?
Hot flashes can occur around the time of periods and is not unusual. Non menopausal hot flashes can occur due to hypothyroidism.Kindly check your TSH,Free T3 and T4 levels.
Premature menopause should also be ruled out.If ovarian function is normal, the following non medical measures can be followed.
Adequate hydration, wearing cotton or lightweight, breathable fabrics, exercise on a regular basis, practicing meditation or relaxation exercises to manage stress is essential.
Avoid triggers like spicy foods, alcohol and caffeinated drinks.
