What Causes Hypersomnia, Speech Disorder And Depression Post Withdrawal From Vicodin?

my dad 85 years old. he fell down in kitchen approx. 3 months ago. went to dr. for back pain from fall. they sent him to emergency room and they gave him Vicodin and sent him home for pain. Since then, I noticed started sleeping in chair a lot. He is not on Vicodin any more but about a month ago started having trouble speaking. he may try to say a sentence but only 3 to 5 words come out of a 10 word sentence. He has lost interest in things he use to want to do. Seems to have weakness and trouble with steady walking.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

He should be reassessed. If a CT scan was not done at the time, one may need to be done or he may need a repeat. He may also need blood tests to rule out other causes such as changes in blood sugar, infection, electrolyte imbalance, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
