Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 14 y/o son. BMI 20. Thin and muscular. Appears healthy and athletic. We are unable to feel a xiphoid process (he is thin and it should be obvious- has a small indention instead of feeling the xiphoid process) . He is in various contact sports. Including football and pole vault. I would like to know if there are any generic reason or concerns d/t missing xiphoid process? Is there increased risk w/ football d/t no apparent xiphoid process. (Has not yet been clarified by x-Ray)
HI Well come to HCM If he does not have any symptoms that could directly related with the missing xiphoid process (which is not possible ideally because absence process does not cause any symptoms) xiphoid is variable structure it could be perforated, long, or absent some time, this is ossified bone (Means fussed with other bone with the age ) hope this helps, take care.
