Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Increased Heart Rate, Breathing Difficulty, Chest Tightness And Fainting?
I was at work when my heart rate increased greatly, I had trouble breathing, my chest tighted up and I felt like fainting. after my heart rate went down and I no longer felt like passing out I felt weak and nauseous. When I got to the hospital, they tested my heart and did several tests but could not find any problems other than high troponin levels. What is your theory on what could have happened?
Increased levels of troponin can be due to different possible causes.
The most common causes are:
(1) a heart attack is the most common reason, this would have likely been checked at the hospital
(2) heart failure
(3) myocarditis - inflammation of the muscles of the heart
(4) pericarditis - inflammation of the outer lining of the heart
(5) endocarditis - inflammation of the inner lining of the heart
(6) kidney disease
(7) cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm- this may be the case for you)
(8) severe infection
(9) extreme exertion.
It may be best to follow up with a cardiologist though your results were normal. This would help to identify the exact reason for the raised troponin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
