Hi I have been having pains in my left arm...it comes and goes. it feels like my muscles are throbbing sometimes by my wrist or above my elbow or most often my triceps . If I massage it, it helps but then the pain comes right back. Today is the second day I ve felt the pain. What could be causing this?

Hello,

Pain in the left arm could be due to cervical radiculopathy, cervical disc prolapse, cervical disc degenerative disease causing impingement on a nerve root, brachial plexus neuritis and sometimes, heart attack can present as pain in the inner side of left arm.

To people with similar symptoms, I would suggest MRI cervical spine, ECG, 2D echocardiography, and neuromuscular conduction studies like EMG. If it is a cervical spine pathology, I suggest rest, pain medication like NSAIDs like Ibuprofen for 10 days. Tab. Pantop taken once daily before food for 10 days and Tab. Pregabalin for 15 days.

If your muscles are spasmodic and stiff, you can have a muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone or a cervical collar. Physical therapy to strengthen the neck muscles would help to relieve pain in long run. Please see an orthopedic surgeon or a physician for above mentioned tests and medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
