What Causes Intermittent Sharp Foot Pain?

hai...I am Bharat. I am pursuing Ph.D. far away from my hometown. From last one month onwards, I am facing some health problem when I get up in the morning, and when I put my foot on the ground, I am facing severe pain because of the unknown reason. This pain settles down when day passes till afternoon and same process repeats every day. I found some types of clotting on my foot when i wake up in the morning (I suspect this might be the reason for pain) In this one month duration, I went home for 10 days and I did not get any such pain when I get up in the morning at home. Now I have several questions to ask... 1) Is the water i use makes the difference (because didnt feel any pain when i was in home)? 2) Does the sandal i use cause this type of problem? 3) what can be the solution for this type of problem? 4) Who should i contact (if any specialist doctor recquires)?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain can be related to the structures in an area: bone, nerves, muscles and other soft tissue (e.g. ligaments).

It is not likely related to the nerves since it only occurs when you place your foot on the ground, nerve related pain tends to occur even without pressure.

It is not likely related to water use. It would be best to see an orthopedic specialist for assessment of the pain since it likely relates to bones or muscles in the area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
