What Causes Intermittent Sore Throat And Lump At The Back Of The Throat?
I had a sore throat on and off for 4 weeks. I was told it was likely viral and to wait for it to go away. Eventually I called my doctors and they prescribed me antibiotics. The past few days, I have felt like I have a hair at the back of my throat so I looked in my mouth in the mirror. I noticed a large fleshy lump protruding from my tonsil. I could touch it without pain. Any idea what this could be?!
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. What fleashy lump you have noticed protruding from your tonsils is part of the tonsil tissue which has remained still inflamed. It takes some more time even after treating the infection with antibiotics for the swelling to come down. In the meantime, you can get relieved from symptoms caused by it by doing the following: 1. Salt water gargling with warm water thrice daily. 2. Doing mouth wash twice daily with Chlorhexidine as ingredient. 3. Taking antihistamine or decongestant medications when necessary. 4. Avoiding intake of cold items like ice-cream or cool drinks. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
