Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have presented with gastrointestinal issues for about 3 years. My recent colonoscopy showed erythema and congestion in the entire colon and was biopsied. The biopsy showed granulomas prompting my GI to prescribe Pentasa and ordered an antibody test. The blood work came back normal. Is it likely that I have Crohn s or is there another condition which would cause granulomas to show on biopsy?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of gastrointestinal issues, recent colonoscopy shows erythema and congestion in the entire colon and hence biopsied, showed as granuloma, prompted GI to prescribe you Pentasa and ordered antibody test, blood work was normal, wants to know whether this Crohns or other condition... Since biopsy was done, the Histopathologist must have told us about whether this was the non-specific granuloma or was due to tuberculosis or Crohns so that the treatment would have been specific, although it is possible that many of the granulomas which do not have definite diagnosis can be very well treated with oral Steroids and so. Also have clinical examination and other tests of X-ray of the chest, CT scan of the whole abdomen, blood tests specific about the clinical cause.
