What Causes Irregular And Prolonged Menstruation With History Of PCOS?

I was diagnosed with pcos in 2010. I was put on metformin but it made me extremely sick so I had to stop taking it. Recently I have been having periods like every 4-6 months that last 4-6 weeks. My PCP doesn t really seem to know what to do to help and just keeps having me switch birth controls. She keeps saying she wants to figure it out and doesn t want to refer me to an obgyn. So is this normal with pcos or what should I ask her to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You should go to gynaecologist. You should continue the contraceptive pills but also get further evaluated.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
