What Causes Irregular Periods After Removing The Placenta?

I am 33 years old. 59.0kg, 5ft 2, my menstruation is very irregular, If I don't use the pill, I get it every six weeks, I am now standing at 7 weeks and I have no show of a period, 3 years ago I went into labour at 6 months, then they had to take me to have the placenta removed because it refused to budge, since then I have had endless problems with menstruation. What should I do, a pregnancy test or a visit to the doc?
