What Causes Irregular Periods While On Birth Control Pills?
Hi, I ve been on and off my period for a little over a month now. It lasts about a week then stops for roughly two days and then comes back. It is lighter than normal and is usually a pink/brown color, not red. My period prior to this was very regular. I also started taking birth control a few months ago and recently switched thinking the birth control was contributing to this.. but the symptoms have not subsided. I m not in pain, however, I feel more tired than normal and experiencing more frequent headaches. I m not sure whether that s related or not. Any suggestions would be great.
Most of birth control pills contain hormones mainly progesterone and oestrogen so when you take birth control pills it will usually affect this hormonal balance in your body and when you stop birth control pills this hormonal balance will come back to normal after 3 to 5 months so it's better to wait and have your symptoms recovered if you are planning for use of birth control pills then I would recommend you to use barrier contraceptive.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
