What Causes Irregular Vaginal Bleeding While On Depo Provera?

Hi, I was on depo provera for a year. I didnt go for my injection in July so I have been of it for 5 months. One month after stopping I had a bleed. I saw my doctor they said it was a hormonal bleed. Last month I had what I thought was my first period. If it was I should of had my next period 2 days ago. I have had no period yet, and I am not pregnant. Was that another hormonal bleed. How do you know the differences? Or is my period going to come later?

Hi.

First of all, you need to understand that depo shots are famous for causing menstrual irregularities in women who have discontinued the shot and while I do think the last bleed should have been your period, I do think that your cycle is irregular now. But that does not mean it will continue to be irregular, it can normalize within about 2-3 cycles, but if it doesn't then visit your doctor who shall help guide you to a normal menstrual cycle.

Best wishes.
