Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. Two weeks ago I noticed that I had some severe itching on my right aereola area. I just chalked it up to excessive dry skin in that particular area. While I did notice the area felt a little rough, I really didnt think it was cause for concern. However last night the itching was so bad that i was literally using my hair brush yo scratch the area as the bristles provided some relief. When I examined the area I noticed dark circular patches just on the aereola and some tenderness (which could be from me brushing the area ). I am using cortisone cream today s instead of lotion but it doesn t seem to be working. Should I be concerned?
This region is indeed prone to dry skin and the cracks produced in the skin can give way to infection-causing organisms and so I would request you to get yourself checked or write to me using our oremium service wherein you can attach images of the affected region for my advise.
For now, try using a topical antibiotic ointment like neosporin and an anti-fungal cream like miconazole which should be available over- the-counter.
Best wishes.
