What Causes Itching In Arm With Red Patch After Using Fentanyl Patch?

my mom wears a 12 mcg fentanyl patch for chronic back pain. today she complained about her arm itching in the area of the patch, and I could see some redness around the patch. I removed it and have been reading about side effects. The patch she s wearing is a different brand than the previous prescription, so I read that the irritation could be from the adhesive. I can t get ahold of her Dr., so I m not sure if I should put a new patch on her or not.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction due to Fentanyl patch.

I suggest to use Calmine lotion for local application. I also recommend to use Benadryl to relieve the itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Regards,
