What Causes Itching In One Who Takes Medication For Depression And Anxiety?

Since November when I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I have been experiencing severe itching every day on different (inconsistent) parts of my body. I do not know the cause. My doctor and psychiatrist have ruled out the medications (Xanax, Lexapro, and Welbutrin). I have noticed the itching occurs prior to when I have a bowel movement. I am NOT anxious when the itching occurs although I do get anxious after the itching occurs. I am so miserable because I do not know the cause. There have been no changes in soaps or clothing or my home environment. My diet has remained the same, no new foods. Any ideas? Thank you! Elizabeth

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to an allergic reaction. As a first line management, you can take antihistamines like pheniramine for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated. An allergy test is required for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
