What Causes Itchy Lumps Over A Contraceptive Implant?

Hi, I ve had a contraceptive implant in my arm for just over a year now and it has never caused any problems, however twice in the last week 1-2 small very itchy lumps have inexplicably appeared over it and then disappeared after about a few hours- since the first time this happened, it also feels like my implant has dislodged or changed shape a bit as it feels very different now when I run my finger over it than it did before. The 1st time it happened about a day after I sustained some scratches that got ink in them about 10cm away from the implant site (those scratches are fine and not infected now I think), the 2nd time it was right after I had worked out (for the first time in a while). Otherwise I can t think of any reasons. Should I be worried? Am I still protected?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

It may be atopic dermatitis most probably. There may be atopic diathesis which may be responsible for the flu like disease .. may be hay fever.. Consult allergist along with dermatologist and ENT surgeon.

hope this helps.
