What Causes Itchy Red Infection In And Around Umbilical Hernia In Diabetic?

Hi, I have an itchy red infection in and around my umbilical hernia. There has been no recent surgery. About 30 years ago I did have a laparoscopic procedure through my belly button. I started to put Neosporin on it yesterday and its not as angry looking. I have t2dm and diabetes. Thank you, Ildi

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different possible causes for the rash that you are noticing. It is possible that it is due to a fungal infection or it can be an allergic response to some agent.

Neosporin is for bacterial infections which may be red but they are not commonly itchy.

You may want to try an antifungal cream to see if it has any effect. A mild topical steroid may also be helpful for a few days.

I hope this helps
