What Causes Itchy Red Rash Behind The Knee Post Injury?

I injured my knee playing basketball. Knee was swollen and sore for a few days and I thought that I had a ligament tear. It has now mostly healed and no longer painful. However, I have developed a red and very itchy rash on the back of my knee. Is this likely a result of the injury or could it be caused by the brace that I wore, during those few days? I have tried antifungals and hydro cortisone, to no avail. Any recommendations?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms may be related to a bacterial infection.

I recommend washing and drying frequently the area with antibacterial soap.

I also recommend using an antibiotic cream for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
