What Causes Jaw Vein Swelling With Clots?

Hi, I am Jake, i have been having a jaw vein/artery problem. It comes around occasionally and it swells up and possibly clots in the same spot. It is directly below the Jaw and is less than two inches below my ear lobe. It is very obstructing and pulsates every now-and-then, as i said, i get this occasionally and every time it comes back around, it gets worse. I have read storiea online about it being obstructive to the Jugular vein and could lead to oxygenated blood, which leads to a stroke. But, i dont belive that one bit. If you have any suggestions or solutions to this problem it would be great thanks.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. It is possible that what you consider as artery or vein might in fact be swollen lymph node under the jaw and is getting swelling repeatedly because of the untreated infection of the oral cavity.

The location you have described explains presence of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes may swell due to either presence of decayed molar tooth of the lower jaw or impacted wisdom tooth that wants to erupt into the oral cavity but lack of physical space cannot let it erupt making the area around it swell.

I would advise you to visit a dentist, particularly when the area is swollen for clinical examination of the oral cavity. You may need to go for investigations like x-ray. Clinical examination along with x-rays can confirm a diagnosis and management can be decided.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
