What Causes Joints Pain After Having Metronidazole?

I am on Metronidazole 500 mg 3 x's a day & Ive only taken 4 doses so far. My joints started hurting shortly after my first dose (badly) & have continued to get worse over the next day. I also have irritability, confusion, clumsiness & a flushed face. I do not have a primary care physician & dont want to go to the emergency room as I have no insurance & just want to know if I should anyway or just discontinue use.

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concern.
You have not mentioned for what purpose you are taking this medicine. You have also not mentioned you age and sex.
Joint pain is not a known side effect of metronidazole, but irritability and confusion can be due to metronidazole. Clumsiness and unsteadiness can also happen, although rarely.

Ideally, you should inform the doctor who has prescribed you this drug and he will decide whether to continue or stop it and if you need to stop it that he will give you an alternative.
But as you have told that you do not want to visit doctor, I will advise you not to take this medicine.
I hope this will be helpful.
Take care.
