Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
when i was about 16 yrs old i started having knee pain. my doctor sent me to an orthopedic doc and said i had runner's knee, and that my knee cap was not aligned properly. so i did PT for about a year and continued the excercises at home. since then i have had on and off knee pain and have just ignored it. im 23 now and the pain seems to be getting worse and more frequently. my doc did xray and they were normal. i have an appt. with an orthopedic soon. i hope there is nothing seriously wrong but i feel weird going since my pain is intermitant

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. The causes of runners knee can be various. It can be due to misalignment or due to over use or problems with foot like flat feet or due to trauma. For misalignment of knee you can do physiotherapy initially.Elastic bandaging or straps to knee for extra support will be helpful.Stretching and strengthening exercises and ice application also give relief to your symptoms. If it is severe mal alignment then you can think about surgical treatment.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
