What Causes Large Blood Clots During Menstruation?

I started what I thought was my period 6 days ago. When it came it came gushing some blood with blood clots. The next day it seemed to stop but later that day I started bleeding heavy with blood clots. I ve been clotting since. Early this morning I woke up soaked and when I went to the bathroom in the toilet was a cloth bigger than a golf ball with a string attached to it.. 40 minutes later I soak another pad and pass another large clot. Is this the result of a miscarriage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are having menometrorrhagia, increased bleeding during the menstrual cycle and after it.
Natural miscarriage is not likely to give that much of bleeding.
You need to do an ultrasound and a colposcopy to determine the causes of bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
