I am 5 1 , 117 lbs and have been treated for high cholesterol for quite some time. My BP and pulse are usually low. There is a family history of high cholesterol in my family. I had been taking 40 Mg of Lipitor but quit taking it since about 4 month ago. I quite because I felt tired a lot and had trouble sleeping. Also had heard about terrible side effects to statin drugs. I don t take any other RX. Recently I have been feeling a flutter-like symptom in my chest that seems to ease when I take a deep breath but it comes right back. I am very active, do step aerobics 3x a week, am 76 y.o. I have no PCP at this time.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Great to know that you are 76 years old and doing step aerobics. Step aerobics itself is the best treatment for control of cholesterol. Along with this your should go for dietary regulation to avoid any foods and beverages that increase lipids. Also go for thyroid tests as low thyroid levels can increase cholesterol. If all these things control your cholesterol you may not need any statins as you are worried about possible side effects. All the best. Have regular checkup and investigations to know the fitness levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
