Hello,

There are two possible contributing factors that cause a patient to collapse similarly as it has happened to your dad.
One is the quick change in the position from sitting to standing, this causes quick blood pressure drop and increases the chance to fall. Another wane is a vagovagal reflex after emptying a full bladder. When a patient has a full bladder and empties it very quickly he will have a vasovagal reflex with blood pressure that drops and he may fall.

These are not dangerous in general except for the risk of head trauma or other broken bones while he falls.

A visit with the doctor will help rule out orthostatic hypotension which is quick drop of blood pressure from sitting to standing and which may be favored by some drugs for hypertension or if he has had diarrhea or other conditions.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
