Hello,
It seems quite obvious that you are suffering from acute diarrhea, possibly traveler's diarrhea (your doctor is right). The
low-grade fever you are experiencing might be indicative of the bacterial nature of diarrhea.
In order to limit diarrhea, you can use anti-motility agents (
loperamide, but you should not use in case of acute severe colitis due to the risk of precipitation of
toxic megacolon. Always consult your doctor before taking Loperamide or other anti-motility agents.
The most common pathogen causing traveler's diarrhea is
Escherichia Coli, Salmonella, Shigella, and Campylobacter (in Asia). Therefore, a short treatment (up to 3-5 days) with
Ciprofloxacin twice a day could be helpful (Ciprofloxacin will cover a wide range of bacteria causing diarrhea). For those traveling to Asia (infected by Campylobacter),
Azithromycin once a day is the drug of choice (up to three days).
You should not worry about the greenish color of your diarrhea, as it is caused by the bile secreted by the
gallbladder due to the increased bowel mobility (faster transit), and thus it does not have time to change its color to normally dark brown (this process normally takes several hours). It is important to keep yourself well hydrate and avoid for a few days foods containing high amounts of fat or sugar.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ervin Toçi
