What Causes Low Sodium And Magnesium Levels In The Body?
FOR SEVERAL DAYS MY SODIUM LEVEL WAS 120 -DRS SAID THIS WAS CRISIS LEVEL -MAGNESIUM LOW ALSO. WENT TO HOSPITAL AND RECEIVED MAGNESIUMJ AND 3/4 OF A BAG OF SODIUM -I LEFT BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT DOING AS MY DOCTOR INSTRUCTED. MY LEVEL CAME UP TO 125 BUT I KNOW ITS DOWN AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE WAY I FEEL . THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS AND THE IVS LAST ONLY A SHORT TOME -I AM ALSO TAKING SODIUM AND MAGNESIUM!!! ANY THOUGHTS????
Loss of sodium needs to be evaluated. The reaon for the loss of sodium from the bosy may be due to inability of the body to absorb it (unlikely considering you improved on oral intake of salt) or loss of salt in the urine. This latter needs to be tested by a urine test- spot urine test.
I would suggest testing your sodium levels regularly. Anytime it goes down, you can start again. Taking green leafy vegetables regularly may help. Also make sure you are not on any medicines like diuretics, eg lasix/frusemide. They make one loose salt in the urine. Doctors can prescribe this for blood pressure/ congestive heart failure purposes.
Best of luck Dr Mittal
