What Causes Low Sodium Levels In New Born?

My niece just had a full term baby girl. She was born with the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her neck which had to be cut before the body was delivered because the babys shoulder was stuck. She stopped breathing and turned blue and was rushed to the NICU as soon as she was delivered. She is still in the NICU now, but is doing well now. They have just started treating her for low sodium levels, so my question is what causes low sodium levels in newborns?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, in your case the reason for low sodium appears to be sepsis. Sepsis is generalised infection of body in neonates. Child should be hospitalised and hyponatremia should be corrected slowly. Take care.
