What Causes Lower Back Pain While Having Degenerative Disc Disease?

I am a female, 66, with allergies, high blood pressure under control, arthritis in neck & back and front ribs, and IBS_C, When I stand for more than 5 or 6 minutes The pain in my lower back becomes so bad that it makes me fall over holding on to everything to get to a chair and tears are coming out of my eyes it hurts so much. I have osteoarthritis which hurts all over but that pain is excruciating and makes me think there s something else wrong. I have L4-L5 degenerative bulging disc, stenosis L2-3,3-4 & multi level degenerative disc disease. Q Are these causing the horrible pain or is something else wrong YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Really sorry to hear about how you have been suffering lately. The pain is explained by your spine disease. This is typical of a spinal problem to cause pain in the lower limbs as nerves to the legs connects to the spine. Sometime degenerative changes in the spine causes pressure on the nerves hence causing the severe pain. Pain is worse in standing in Stenosis.

So your pain is explainable on your spine problem. You should see a neurosurgeon for proper assessment and management. There are a number of modalities that may help your pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
