Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Lower Leg Pain Along With Foot Cramps At Nights?
I am a 61 yr old male, smoke about a pack a day and about 20 lbs over weight. I get lower leg and foot cramps at night (sleeping) more often than what s considered normal if you will. The right lower leg (calf) is and has been for over 6 mo/yr, very sore. Even massaging it is very painful. I have had a vein replacement surgery in my left leg due to very poor circulation. But it s the right lower leg that give me a fit. There is pain when I try to stretch the muscles, pain when I walk, and really there is pain to the touch. I have tried moist heat and that helps some but it certainly does not eliminate the pain. I am fairly active, I am a care giver for my 88 yr old Father and I do everything here at the house so I am constantly in pain. HELP!!!
The pain in your right leg is most likely due to poor blood flow. Your weight and chronic smoking could have damaged the blood vessels in your right leg. You should consult your doctor urgently so that he can assist you. A doppler scan of the leg would be necessary to establish at what level and how extensive the problem is and from there the doctor can advise you further.
