What Causes Lowering Of Oxygen Saturation In A 2 Year Old Having RSV Infection?
My child of 2,5 years was diagnosed with RSV infection upon showing respiratory problems (difficulty to breathe) and she was put on respirator. She suffers of asthma as well. Her O2 saturation level improved for a while but after 12 hours the level started decreasing? What's causing this fluctuation?
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) infection in asthmatic patients is very dangerous and causing severe bronchospasm with super added bacterial infection. Both these conditions cause poor oxygenation of lungs. This ventilation perfusion mismatch occur. So deoxygenated blood will not be properly oxygenated. And this causes low oxygenation.
