What Causes Lump In Arm At I/V Insertion Site?

About 3 years ago I was in hospital having my son. The nurse put my iv in my left arm about 4 inches up from my wrist. When she took it out about a couple days later it left a raised purple lump about a little less than a 1/4 inch in diameter. It looks like it grew a little bit but not sure if I should be concerned, could it be cancerous? did she just take it out wrong and left me with a mark.? Please help.
