Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Metallic Taste In Mouth And Poor Appetite While On Acetazolamide?
I have been prescribed acetazolamide for my glaucoma for about two months and recently notice side effects that include the metallic taste I get when eating which results in poor appetite and stomach. Any suggestion until I see my doctor next month to check the eye pressures?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.
As per your complain metallic taste in mouth seems to be due to side effect of medicine and you need not to worry as there seems nothing serious.. I would suggest you to consult your treating Physician and get evaluated and he can either reduce the dose of the medicine or change the medicine with other substitutes..
As of now you should keep patience and try your best to take proper meals and eat the food of your choice to improve appetite and interest in eating.. You can chew sugarfree chewing gums that are flavoured to improve taste.. Gargle with flavoured mouthwash.. Drink plenty of water and maintain a good oral hygiene..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
