What Causes Mood Swings And Depression?

I dont know what i feel actually but dont like anything or dont feel like working, going out or talking to someone. Mood swings and then self hurting and feel hopeless. Like there is something on my mind that i cant even express or maybe i dont know myself either. I am 26 years old and an architect but not working.
