What Causes Mouth Ulcers While On Lamotrigine?

My daughter started lamotrigine for epilepsy and has taken 2 doses of it in the last 72 hours. This evening a red mouth sore has come up is this something I should take her to have looked at due to the side affects of this medication or is it probably just a mouth sore.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, Lamotrigine has a side effect of causing mouth sores and eruption of sores in mouth of your daughter after just 2 doses of Lamotrigine is a side effect of medication only..

You should consult your Physician and get her examined so that the dose can be titrated or drug can be substituted..

For now if the sores are painful you can apply pain relieving gels that contains Lidocaine or Choline salicylate and suitable for oral use..
Make her do warm saline gargles to soothe the ulcers..
Apply cool packs can also help in reducing inflammation and pain..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
