What Causes Movable Lump At The Inguinal Hernia Repair Site?
I had inguinal hernia repair (both sides), 6 weeks ago. I have a hard bulge on one side that hasn t gone away. The surgeon told me at my post op appointment that it was fluid build up and it was normal. Well the lump is still there, and you can move it around. Is this still NORMAL?
Hello sir, Often post-op, fluid tends to collect at the surgical site. But by 6 weeks, it should have gotten resorbed. Since it is a freely mobile swelling, you have probably developed a lipoma at the site of surgery. A lipoma is a benign knot of fatty tissue that may form at the healing site, where scar is being formed. It is completely benign and needs no intervention. It is advisable for you to get a ultrasound of the swelling done to confirm the diagnosis.
But in case you develop pain, redness, warmth or oozing from this swelling, pls rush soon to ER as then it may be another issue.
get well soon, regards, Dr. Sonia
