What Causes Mucus From Back Of Throat To Taste Sweet And Salty?

I have been experiencing a sweet odor in my nose, upon inhalation. My breath smells fine, but when I inhale, I smell this sweet, sort of alcohol smell. I have not been drinking. I have a bit of post-nasal drip and slight congestion due to allergy. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes or any blood sugar issues, at least not since my last physical 10 months ago. The mucus from the back of my throat/post nasal drip also tastes sweet and salty. Any ideas?

Hi.
There is no specific reason for the smell or the test you have. Neither this is seen in diabetic patients nor is seen with any specific disorder.
This is just an altered sensation one gets due to inflammation of the mucosa and the nerve endings in the nose having this altered symptom.
I would advise you to go for the following:
ENT examination and endoscopy.
CT scan of the sinuses.
Trial with an antibiotic, oral and topical steroids in the form of a spray.
Antihistaminics - oral and topical decongestants.
This will re-arrange the sensations.
Just relax, this is not a serious problem.
