My back left side above my hip (where waist goes in) feels like I am having a muscle cramp. It started about 4 days ago comes and goes. Felt fine this morning then took shower leaned down to scrub my foot & bam pain ... Makes me yelp out cuz it hurts so much. .pain radiates up back, down to hip.. i took ibuprophin last night cuz I had a headache, so I took more after back started hurting, seems to help a little. Don t recall doing anything to strain my back..... After going in the pool I get out & it hurts bad ... I have type 2 diabetes, on medication. Want to be sure not serious.
Based on the history you have shared, it can be muscular spasm however, X-ray lumbar spine to look for any lumbar spine disc issues if pain persists beyond two weeks.
Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be continued. Muscle relaxants like tizanidine or orphenadrine should Alos be used along.
If pain is severe more potent analgesics like tramadol or gabapentin can be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
