What Causes Muscle Cramps, Constipation When On Medication For High BP?
Hi, I am taking medication for High Blood Pressure and I have found that when I take these medication they create several complications in my body. 2 of which are muscle cramps and constipation. what amount of magnesium and potassium should I take to counteract these symptoms?
Dear sir/madam, by your description it looks like they have started you on diuretics for blood pressure reduction. diuretics causes electrolyte imbalance which inturn causes muscle cramps and other side effects. Ideally you have to monitor electrolytes and cosult any physician/cardiologist. But if you stop the drug then it should be fine and alternate antihypertensives should be started for blood pressure control.
your symptoms may be related to water pills that are used to treat hypertension. They cause dehydration and hipokalemia and other electrolyte disorders.
To treat this I suggest kalium and magnesium supplements.
Hope it was of help.
