What Causes Muscle Twitching, Abdominal Pain, Decreased Appetite And Constipation?

I am a 44 year old overweight female who recently started exercising. On Monday, I was doing seated dumbbell concentration curls when I experienced a very strange pain in my lower right abdomen. The best way I can describe it is a twisting sensation. I stopped lifting and waited. I could feel the pressure build and seem to move slightly before going away. My side continues to hurt, I have occasional burning sensations, have a decreased appetite, and have not had a bowel movement. My doctor s office shut down 2 months ago and the doctor I called today isn t going to see me until Monday. Should I go to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

After starting exercise, it is very common to experience pain in different parts of body. I would suggest you not to do any exercise for a week or two as the sudden pain can be due to a pulled muscle or something else. Wait till you visit a doctor in person.

For the loss of appetite and bowel movements, a physical examination is necessary with all medical history then only further management can be done.

Till then for the burning sensation in stomach you can take antacids like Pan 40 for a week every morning empty stomach.

When you are doing exercise, you should consider consulting a trainer before trying lifting any weights. Before that get yourself examined by visiting your doctor. If the pain increases and becomes unbearable, and you feel uncomfortable then do visit ER.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar
