What Causes Nasal Congestion And Excessive Phlegm Production?

Hello, I wake up almost every morning coughing up phlegm, stuffed nose, but most of all a lot of thick spit in the morning that I am trying to get out of my throat. Sometimes it will last up to an hour or two to get rid of. I’m wondering if I might have chronic sinusitis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It can be upper respiratory tract infection like sinusitis or bronchitis-like condition. The decongestant tablet can be prescribed for that. Avoid smoking if having a habit. Investigate with CBC for further work up. Avoid excess spicy foods. Take one tsp turmeric powder with milk daily. Drink plenty of water. Warm water help in soothing. If no improvement chest x-ray and auscultation examination need to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
