What Causes Nasal Congestion And Sharp Pain From Nose Radiating Into Head?
Hi,I'm I'm allergic to a few things which cause my nose to be blocked, however whenever I sniff, there is a shooting pain that travels from my nose to the top of my head causing me extreme pain for a short time, is this a sinus problem or my allergies?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ina Zaimi's Response
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
With such a presentation on my clinic I would suspect of sinusitis. Allergies are not presented with pain. Conditions that can cause sinus blockage include the common cold, allergic rhinitis (swelling of the lining of the nose), nasal polyps (small growths in the lining of the nose), or a deviated septum (a shift in the nasal cavity). Classical sinusitis symptoms include Facial pain/pressure nasal stuffiness, nasal discharge, loss of smell and cough/congestion. In order to relief sinusitis, I would recommend you use nasal decongestants like Sudafed and steam inhalations, an antihistaminic for your allergy, and a regime of 10-14 days with antibiotics.
I hope I helped with my answer. Feel free to ask again, I will be happy to help you again.
Kind Regards, Dr. Ina Zaimi
