What Causes Nausea And Vomiting After Surgery For Placing Stents?

my boyfriend just had two stents put in, they released him from the hospital yesterday. He was still very nauseous. Today he didn t get to take his blood pressure pill until this evening. He took it finally, but he has been throwing up, so I don t think it has done any good. is it ok for him to take one of his nitroglycerin pills and put it under his tongue, to get his blood pressure down? we are just wondering .. we don t want to do anything to hurt his heart. thanks for any help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Keeping blood pressure in the normal range is important. As he is vomuting i suggest giving him an OTC antiemetic. That way he ll be able to keep the medicine down in his stomach to get absorbed. And yes for now it will not harm him to take a nitroglyceryl to control his blood pressure. Some of the nitrates are shortacting so in such case i would like him to take a long acting like a trinitroglyceryl.
Thanks
