Hi, My name is Rustin Crocker. I was recently prescribed azithromycin and prednisone, aswell as an inhaler with albutrol sulfate for chest congestion and i had multipe adverse reactions to my stomach such as vomiting, watery diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain/burning (felt highly acidic) . I told my doctor and she changed my prescription to levofloxacin. Is it less harsh on my stomach than the azithromycin? Is there an antibiotic that you would recommend instead? Multiple medical websites list this combination of prednisone (corticosteroid) and Levofloxacin (antibiotic) as drugs that have a major reaction together, this combination is labeled as clinically significant, and says that the risks outweigh the benifits. Why am i prescribed two drugs that shouldn t be taken together. If taken separately at different times of day how long should i wait in between to stagger the doses for less risk factor? I was told by the pharmacist that these side effects (doctor believed to be caused by the azithromycin) are very common, while the box says diarrhea(4-5%) stomach pain (2-3%) and that less than 1 % (cdc study shows .7%) of patients stopped taking the drug due to side effects. Should i trust the pharmacist (that has a minimum of 6 years of education on drugs) or the doctor (that has more medical education but less specifically directed)?
