What Causes Nausea, Dizziness And Diplopia?

Hello! I'm currently a nursing student & I have a quick question concerning my uncle's condition. I came home today to my uncle laying on the couch stating that he's been feeling very nauseous, dizzy & seeing double (diplopia). About a month or 2 ago, he's been prescribed olanzapine & the mood stabilizer lamotrigine. Since then, he's been fine. Well, 3 weeks ago his doctor added fluoxetine 20 mg & he plans to increase the dose to 40 mg in a few weeks. My uncle says these symptoms have been occurring only since he's started the fluoxetine. I'm assuming the fluoxetine is causing the symptoms. Any advice?

Hello,
Yes, it is probably the fluoxetine causing at least the nausea. Nausea is very common with the SSRIs. However, it usually goes away in time but I would suggest lowering the dose to 10 mg until he is stable then increasing it only very slowly if needed. The double vision is not common with fluoxetine so he should see an eye doctor for an exam as this may not be related.
