What Causes Nausea, Nervousness And Chest Pain After Taking SMZ-TMP DS?

I have COPD with emphysema and am having a flare-up. Cr. prescribed a new antibiotic and medrol pack for the infection. The antibiotic is SMZ-TMP DS TAB, which is a sub for Bactrim DS Tablet. I have a sensitivity to several drugs and low dose tolerance. Have been taking since Wednesday. Every time I take it I get very nervous and jittery, nauseous, problem sleeping and have minor chest pain. I also suffer from panic attacks and the reaction I am getting reminds me of this. Is it normal to feel this way with this medication? Thank you.

SMZ TMP DS is a combination of two antibiotics namely trimethoprim sulphamethoxazole which is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections like middle ear, urinary tract, respiratory tract, intestinal infections etc. Side effects of this medication are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, spinning sensation, ringing in the ears, nervousness, anxiety, sleeping problems, chest pain, panic attacks, symptoms of a serious allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of tongue, lips or throat, breathing difficulties etc. If someone experiences such types of side effects of this medication, he should consult with his doctor immediately. The prescribing doctor may stop this medication and choose another type of medication.
