What Causes Neck Pain While Suffering From Fever And Sore Throat?

My 5 year old daughter had a fever of 101.7 yesterday and had a sore throat in the morning that same day. She did not have an appetite and vomited 3 times. We tried to give her tylenol and she was unable to hold it down. She slept a lot during the day and slept well last night. She woke up feeling better today, but with a low fever of 99. She ate today and had a normal appetite. She just started having a stuffy nose. Now she is complaining of moderate pain in her neck when she looks down and her fever has gone up again to 100.7. She s still hungry and eating dinner, but I m concerned about the neck pain.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,

You have to take her to a pediatrician asap. It sounds like a viral fever but the pain while bending neck could indicate meningitis aka spread of infection towards the brain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Harshita, Ophthalmologist
