What Causes Neck Spasms Long After A Cervical Herniated Disc At C4 And C5?
i herniated my c4 and c5 when i was 18 yrs old during a football game. I m now 33 and through the years the side effects have gotten worse. I have had physical therapy, pain managment, epidural injections, and nothing seems to help. My neck still goes into spasm almost daily, it leads to numbness and tingling down both of my arms and limits my head movement to almost none. Is there anything else I can do or is surgery my last option?
It is the herniated( protruded) disc causing compression over the nerve roots and leads to pain and numbness.
Surgery is the last resort and we can try nonsurgical options first. Consult a neurologist or spine surgeon and get evaluated. Drugs like gabapentin will be an effective option.
Immobilizing and stabilizing the neck In a neck collar for a few weeks can provide symptomatic relief. Steroid injection is another well effective option that can provide long-lasting pain-free intervals.
Surgery may be required if all non-surgical options fails.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
