What Causes Nerve Pain And Burning Sensation In Right Thigh Of A Diabetic Patient?

I have been a diabetic for over 30 yrs, I have been suffering with nerve pain for the last three months with no relief. My primary thought it was shingles (without the rash.) The burning pain is on my right thigh, left side of my torso and my waistline. It hurts to put clothes on. Any suggestions

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have nerve pain and burning sensation in right thigh of a diabetic patient . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case the symptoms are due to diabetic neuropathy . Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that can occur if you have diabetes. High blood sugar can injure nerve fibers throughout your body, but diabetic neuropathy most often damages nerves in your legs and feet. I would suggest you to consult endocrinologist for proper checkup . Doctor may order filament test , nerve conduction studies or electromyography . Doctor may prescribe gabapentin , tricyclic antidepressant like desipramine . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for conditions like nerve compression and disc problem . For now take a light walk , drink plenty of water and quit smoking if you have habit .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
