What Causes Neuralgia Pain And Confusion Despite Taking Lorazepam And Gabapentin?

I had the shingles in November. The ER gave me tea idol & oxycodone 5mg. Tramadol, Prednisone 50 mg. Then I had a Dexa Scan. Then a follow up at my Primary care, who perscribed vitamin D2 50,000 in & Fosamax 70 mg. At the visit I said I was feeling a neurological pain in my face & head, she know perscribed Gabapentin 300 mg. I also take a Lorazepam at night. The Gabapentin appears to Be used in seizures & a spin off from Shingles. I have had all these in 3 months, I still have the neuralgia pain, & feel confused & forgetful at times. Know what should I do??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The gabapentin is used as moderate analgesic for certain neurologic disorders and neuralgia. The cause of pain can be
- Partial response to Gabapentin
- Pathology of progressive level
- Stress and anxiety
- Lack of sleep and rest

The confusion seems to be ill effect of sedative drug Lorazepam and the dose reduction of which will clear the issue.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
