What Causes Normal LFTs In Hepatitis-B Reactive Women?
Sir, i work in hospital Lab i observed that most of the pregnant women who are hepatitis B reactive they have Normal LFT values. is it fact or research can be continued based on this observation. The other question is that as Hbe Antigen tells transimission of Hbs Ag risk to others by patients suffering from Hepatitis B, is it possible new born babies may become Hbe ag positive from HBs Ag and HBe Ag positive mother and then later become Hbs Ag positive.
Almost all cases of Hepatitis B can be prevented in a baby born to an infected woman. The infant should receive a shot called Hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) and the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine within 12 hours of birth. Two or 3 additional shots of vaccine are needed over the next 1–6 months to help prevent Hepatitis B.
Yes, liver infected by HBV may take years for the LFT to become abnormal. Other factors may also play role which may precipitate the damage.
best wishes regards Dr Malik
